The Guinness Effort Award was introduced in Malaysia in 1975 to award Malaysians for their exemplary deeds and outstanding achievements.  GEA was established as part of Guinness Anchor Berhad’s community relations programmes with the objective to foster a sense of national pride and civic consciousness by recognising ordinary Malaysians for their remarkable achievements or deeds - who could stand as role models for others to emulate.

Other Malaysian winner include Datuk Nicol David who was the recipient in 2001
